The annual FIM Sustainability Week continues today (6 June) with the focus centred around two major activities – the launch of the Ride Green Generation campaign and the programme of forest planting and developing human resources at Hello Woods in Japan.

Supported by a film subtitled in Spanish, Italian, French and English that reflects the spirit of the Ride Green Generation, this ground-breaking campaign is for riders who wish to be part of the new wave of motorcyclists who recognise the importance of preserving the future while still enjoying the freedom of motorcycling.

The campaign, addressed to the entire international FIM Community, will run until the end of the year and celebrates thirty years of riding green. It will communicate commitment and a vision of sustainability for the future, with messages dedicated to reinforcing environmental protection regulations, guidelines and practices.

In addition, there will be a presentation of the FIM’s worldwide community of environmental stewards and messages from the FIM’s select group of environmental ambassadors.

The day’s focus will then shift to Hello Woods with a Zoom presentation, initially announced last week, by Mobility Resort Motegi presented in Japanese with English translation.

Ryuichiro Sakino, Hello Woods Forest Director, will underline the importance of the forest and the biodiversity surrounding the iconic Motegi circuit.

Hello Woods opened in 2000 and offers a variety of hands-on programmes thoughout the year, utilising the facility’s rich environment to encourage interest in the natural world and inspire people to consider ways we can coexist with nature.
It is part of the Japanese Ministry of the Environment’s innovative ‘Monitoring sites 1000’ project that collects data at one-thousand locations across the country to detect changes in the natural environment.

With a full chapter of the FIM’s Environmental Code dedicated to biodiversity, last year the Director of the FIM International Sustainability Commission (CID) established a working group to research and work within this area with the primary objective of registering the efforts of circuits, clubs and other organisations in the conservation of biodiversity.

Kattia Juárez, CID Director, said: “On the second day of the FIM Sustainability Week we are delighted to present the ‘Ride Green Generation’ campaign which is mainly focused on exalting the values of sustainable sport, dedicating part of this campaign to a series of messages aimed at emphasising our regulations, work guides and regulations, but in a fresher and more accessible way for all motorcycling users. We want a generation committed to a more sustainable future.”

Ryuichiro Sakino, Hello Woods Forest Director, stated: “Twin Ring Motegi provides an opportunity to think about what kind of relationship you'll have with nature even as you enjoy the lifestyle afforded by civilisation. If we are to coexist with nature, we must strike a balance in how we use it – if our relationship with nature is all take and no give, that relationship won’t last long.

“This forest is inhabited by northern goshawks and the paddies where farmers are raising pesticide-free rice near its entrance are home to large numbers of mole crickets, giant water bugs, dragonflies and water beetles. Some five-and-a-half-thousand species of plant and animal life have been confirmed to live in these mountains.”
