Further to the recent public statements relating to the unfortunate incident suffered by Felix Bähker at the Extreme XL Lagares, which marked the second round of the 2026 FIM Hard Enduro World Championship in Penafiel (Porto) - Portugal on Friday 1st May, the FIM wishes to confirm the following:
Since 2019, the FIM has implemented a global rider insurance programme for all FIM-licenced riders participating in FIM World Championships / Cups, Intercontinental Championships and FIM Prizes.
Nevertheless, national federations affiliated to the FIM have the option of taking out their own insurance cover, provided that it guarantees a level of cover equivalent to that of the FIM, namely covering of emergency medical expenses at the event venue (in addition to any other insurance taken out personally by the rider), covering of repatriation costs to the rider's country of residence, and compensation in the event of death or disability.
The Deutscher Motor Sport Bund e. V. (DMSB), having opted for its own insurance cover, is in contact with Felix Bähker's family and is assuming responsibility and action for all related matters.
The FIM reinforces its support for Felix Bähker and continues to stand by him and as it does with all riders in such unfortunate circumstances.
