The Slovenian town of Krško will play host to the brightest up-and-coming Speedway stars on the planet this coming Saturday (24 May) when the impressive Stadion Matija Gubec stages the Semi-Finals of the 2025 FIM Speedway Youth World Championship (SGP3).

- SGP3 Final places in Prague on the line on Saturday
Open to riders aged under sixteen years of age on 250cc machines, the series was rebranded as SGP3 by global promoter Warner Bros. Discovery Sports in 2022 and represents an early step on the ladder that ultimately leads to the blue ribbon FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Championship (SGP).
On Saturday a combined entry of thirty-three ambitious young riders will contest two Semi-Finals with the end goal of a place behind the tapes at the Final that will take place on 30 May in the Czech capital Prague.
With Poland’s reigning champion Maksymilian Pawelczak not competing there will be a new name entered into the history books at the end of this month, but before the hopefuls can start rehearsing their victory speeches first they must book their places in Prague and that will be no easy task given the wealth of talent in action in Krško.
A clear indication of the prestige that SGP3 enjoys, the International entry is drawn from sixteen countries spread over four continents which also accurately demonstrates the global appeal of the sport, even at a young age.
A total of nine Finalists from 2024 will return for another attempt at the title and leading the way is fifteen-year-old Beau Bailey from Australia who finished second in the 2024 Final held in Gorzów in Poland after losing out to Pawelczak in a dramatic winner-takes-all deciding Heat.
The first Semi-Final will see home hero Sven Cerjak, who was fifth last season in Gorzów, in action against fellow 2024 Finalists Adam Nejezchleba from the Czech Republic who was eighth, Britain’s Cooper Rushen who was ninth, Denmark’s Elias Jamil Jensen who was tenth and Sweden’s Casper Appelgren who was fifteenth.
Bailey will contest the second Semi-Final where he will be up against rising Danish star Villads Pedersen who was fourth in the 2024 Final as well as Maksymilian Kostera from Poland who was seventh in Gorzów and the Czech Republic’s Karel Prusa who was eleventh.
While last year’s finishing positions are a useful benchmark when it comes to picking potential Finalists, a lot can change in a short space of time and once you factor in the unpredictable nature of Speedway it is clear that no-one can afford to be complacent.
The first Semi-Final is scheduled to get under way at 12:00 (local time) before the tapes go up on the second Semi-Final at 19:00 (local time).
