FIM Speedway Youth World Championship cancelled

It is with great regret that the FIM, the promoter One Sport, the German Motorsport Federation (DMSB) and the local organiser MSC Cloppenburg have to announce the cancellation of the  2020 FIM Speedway Youth World Championship. This is due to the ongoing restrictions put in place by the German government regarding the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, which includes no mass sporting events until the end of August. The 2020 FIM Speedway Youth World Championship was due to be hosted entirely in Cloppenburg, Germany with the Semi Finals and Final set to take place over the weekend of 31 July / 1 August.

In making this difficult decision due consideration was given to the fact that riders due to compete in the championship from outside of Europe may not be able to enter the country. Plus, the events could not be rescheduled beyond the end of August, as many of the riders aged between 13-17 years old will be back at school / college, and such it was considered that their education remains the absolute priority.

As with all FIM Championships, it was necessary to organise a series that was fair to all parties and in no way disadvantaged overseas riders due to the ongoing situation relating to the current pandemic, with this in mind the FIM and promoter One Sport decided that given the circumstances the right and proper decision was to cancel the series.

Throughout the process the safety of all parties involved in FIM Speedway Youth World Championship was the key consideration, plus the need to adhere to the advice provided by the relevant government departments and health authorities.

Whilst such decisions are always disappointing, especially for the riders, the FIM and promoter One Sport will continue to work together to ensure a strong championship in 2021 so as to provide a positive focus for all parties, whom they would like to thank for their kind understanding and support during this challenging period.
