On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the FIM Grand Prix World Championship, first held in 1949, the FIM organised a presentation at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit in front of the international media to pay tribute to the important personalities and institutions that have played a key role in the success of MotoGP from the point of view of promotion and safety.
FIM President Jorge Viegas presented a commemorative plaque to Takanao Tsubouchi (General Secretary of the Motorcycle Sports Manufacturers' Association) to Mike Trimby (International Racing Team Association CEO), Carmelo Ezpeleta (Dorna CEO) and Luigi Brenni (former President of the FIM Road Racing Commission) to recognise their contributions.
The President of the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit Vicenç Aguilera presented a trophy to the President of the FIM to mark this special occasion during the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya 2019.
Jorge Viegas added that the FIM, its partners and stakeholders will continue the development of the championship to increase safety, create the ideal conditions for the development of young riders from around the world and ensure fairness for our sport.
