Thirty-seven participants from four different countries took part in the recent FIM Future Stars / Women’s Training camp in Germany. Riders from Denmark, Poland, Slovakia and the host nation had a blast at the two-day event while honing their Trial skills.
The ground-breaking maiden FIM Future Stars Training camp gave six emerging stars the opportunity to showcase their talent. Riding a mixture of electric and internal combustion engine-powered machines, the future stars were trained by a professional coach and two assistant coaches to ensure that the youngsters enjoyed a safe learning environment at all times. Under expert supervision, they learned how to brake, turn, stand up and how to use the throttle, demonstrating once again the value of this discipline for mastering the basics. After each hour-long session, the improvements were clear to see.
Running in parallel with the youngsters’ camp, the FIM Women´s Trial Training Camp included six coaches so that its groups comprised no more than seven riders. The female riders were treated to over six hours of tuition on Saturday and a further five hours on Sunday. Conditions throughout the weekend were demanding with temperatures reaching over thirty degrees Celsius. The programme focused on improving their step technique and for the girls who ride in the TrialGP series, the focus was on improving their qualification style riding. The overall standard of riding was very high, with all the riders showing strong motivation, whilst still finding the energy to smile!
A barbeque on Saturday evening reflected the spirit of the occasion. Attended by over one hundred people, including family members and supporters, without whom the riders could not participate each weekend, it was a nice moment to recognise and say thank you to them all.
Director of Women in Motorcycling Commission (CFM) - Nita Korhonen remarked. “The FIM wants to concentrate more on the grass roots level as this will be the key to having more both leisure riders and competitive racers in the future. For us it is important that kids - both girls and boys - have the opportunity to be introduced to motorcycling in a safe and fun way. Trial is a great discipline to take the first step towards motorcycling and we are very happy to engage in intensive co-operation with the Trial commission. The Trial training camp organised in Germany was once again a great success. The first ever "FIM Future Stars" group with young kids training with electric powered motorcycles was an important step for the whole of the FIM that wants to ensure that the motorcycling sport will have a fruitful and successful future.”
FIM Trial Commission Director, Thierry Michaud concluded: "We are very satisfied with the success of this women’s training camp in Germany, which took place with the support of the FIM but at the initiative of our expert Iris Oelschlegel and the National Federation. We fully support the idea of giving children, boys and girls, this type of instructive training. This Training Camp has also shown that the association of improvements for competition, fun and friendly practices are not incompatible. The opportunity offered by Trial in the use of electric powered motorcycles for teaching basic practice to youngsters must be part of our development policy within the FIM, and especially our National Federations.”
