The FIM has included the Horizons Unlimited Mountain Madness (HUMM) international events under its Adventure Touring Challenge, organized by the FIM Touring and Leisure Commission.
The HUMM is a unique two- or three-day off-road motorcycle team navigation challenge created by Horizons Unlimited founders, Grant and Susan Johnson. HUMMs mimic international motorcycle adventure travel at the local level by testing a team’s navigation know-how, orienteering strategy, and off-road riding skills through technical terrain in breathtaking destinations around the world.
“We are especially pleased that HUMM has FIM sanctioning,” says Grant Johnson. “It gives riders a chance to get a tempting taste of overland adventure travel close to home. Working with FIM experts brings greater global recognition for this type of moto experience.”
FIM’s Touring and Leisure Commission advocates activities that create special services for motorcycling tourists and developing road-based motorcycling as a means of recreation and transport, including non-competitive activities involving historical vehicles in cooperation with national and international bodies active in this field.
“The HUMM has proven its international appeal for motorcycle travellers,” says Damiano Zamana, FIM’s Touring and Leisure Commission Director. “It is an excellent connection with FIM’s advocacy for and commitment to global motorcycle touring and related non-sporting activities. HUMM events will complete the FIM Adventure Touring Challenge 2017 calendar.”
Previously held in Spain, France, Andorra, Morocco and Canada since 2007, HUMMs have been observed and assessed by CTL during the past two years.
