The first free and qualifying practices of the FIM e-Power International Championship just took place on the famous Bugatti circuit in Le Mans, a support class of the 24 Hrs Moto event, the opening round of the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship in France.
The brand new FIM e-Power International Championship series opens in a première in an unusual silence when the competitors made their first historic laps on their electric powered motorcycles.
For this first season, the number of participants in the FIM e-Power International Championship is low but the event has merit by opening a new path of in the development of motorcycle with complete respect of the environment. The e-Power motorcycles showed respectable performance with all participants in good spirit and form in a new series where electrical technology has a huge potential for development.
The best time of the first practice session was signed by Thomas Betti (Betti Moto / ITA) in 2'19.239. For comparison, the fastest time in first free practice in the Qtel FIM Endurance World Championship that competes at Le Mans is currently 1' 39.083 signed by Suzuki SERT. The lap record in 125 GP is 1’43.515.
