Australian ace Brady Kurtz powered to a record-equalling fourth straight FIM Speedway Grand Prix win in the DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Poland – Wroclaw on Saturday.
Kurtz heads into the title-deciding DeWalt FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on September 13 just three points behind Poland’s five-time world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, who finished second after an epic battle with Great Britain star Dan Bewley, who was third.
Zmarzlik now needs first or second place in Vojens to be certain of a record-equalling sixth Speedway GP World Championship – matching the total won by New Zealand legend Ivan Mauger and Swedish great Tony Rickardsson. He could also become the first rider to win four world titles in as many years.
Kurtz’s victory – following up his wins in Gorzow, Malilla and Riga – makes him only the second rider in Speedway GP history to win four SGP rounds on the bounce – a feat last achieved 20 years ago by Rickardsson in 2005.
The Wroclaw rider is also guaranteed this season’s Speedway GP silver medal – becoming only the third rider in SGP history to reach the top two in their debut season – following Poland’s Patryk Dudek in 2017 and Denmark’s Leon Madsen in 2019.
Third place for Bewley sees him leapfrog Sweden’s Fredrik Lindgren for third place and secure his spot in the 2026 Speedway GP series along with Australia’s Jack Holder, who was fourth on the night.
