Enduro Indoor World Cup - Madrid (Spain), 3rd of 3 CERVANTES, WORLD CUP WINNER

The Spanish rider Iván Cervantes was the winner of the Enduro Indoor World Cup in Madrid, where the last in the three events was held. The Palacio de Deportes in Madrid was packed with 8500 spectators who celebrated the title with Cervantes.

The World Cup was practically decided in the first of the three races, where Iván Cervantes (KTM) recovered from a fall on the first curve and ended up winning the heat. The Polish Tadeusz Blazusiak (KTM), the other leading contender for the title, was in the lead but then became trapped in the tree trunk section.

Cervantes, who had come forward from almost last place to second, took the opportunity to overtake and was first across the finishing line. Blazusiak lost concentration and fell again, damaging the KTM clutch, and finally finished in seventh place. In this first heat behind Iván, were the Italian Mossini (Honda) and Dougie Lampkin (Beta). Xavi Galindo (KTM) came sixth.

Aware that he had a confortable advantage, Cervantes spent the second race controlling his performance, and was proclaimed mathematical winner despite the triumph of Blazusiak. Lampkin finished third again, in front of the Spanish Oriol Mena (Husaberg), who achieved his first points in the Cup.

The third and last heat was the closest between Blazusiak and Cervantes. As the Spanish rider admitted, “I was under no pressure at all, and it´s been great fun competing side by side with Tadeusz”. The winner of this third final was Blazusiak and Cervantes came in just after him. This time the E1 World Champion, the Finnish Mika Ahola, finished third, somewhat of a consolation for a bad night in which he had many falls.

Xavi Galindo, who looked to finish in third place at the end of the World Cup, gave up his position to Mossini and Ahola (who had a very good last race), and ended up with fifth place, in front of Dougie Lampkin, who took part in only six finals and was therefore not present in the first event.
