Education is the central pillar of the FIM sustainability strategy

In the recent relaunch of the FIM sustainability strategy, The future in the Pole position, we have emphasized ‘people’ as a strategic area.  We are focused on our volunteers, who are the ‘cornerstone’ of our organisation; we have designed a whole system of distance training, which has helped us continue training even in times of a pandemic.

For this, the FIM administration has spared no effort or budget to provide the best tools. We have the best online platform that allows us to have meetings and seminars for multiple participants, using simultaneous translation and small virtual rooms, which are essential for studying practical cases.

The aptitude tests are carried out through an online system that randomises the questions and generates an individual evaluation experience per student using illustrated questions, multiple-choice questions, etc. Before the seminar, students receive short courses from the FIM Academy focused on the organisation’s administrative areas, governance, and history.
Each online session lasts approximately ten hours in total, which are distributed according to the different time zones.

The FIM CID has five multilingual instructors with experience in sustainability and some with experience in university teaching. Renowned lecturers with vast experience in the area of sustainability and motorsport.

The seminars are focused on establishing a broad knowledge base of sustainability. Establish Environmental Action Plans for the events, align the events with the Global Objectives, apply the FIM Environmental Code and depend on the use of the event's sustainability control tools.

Each applicant has to complete the theoretical part, take a test, participate in the working groups and complete the modules of the FIM academy, which will give them the pass in order to obtain the FIM International Licence to be an Environmental steward, which is valid for three years.

The first seminar was inaugurated in 1997 in Rugby - UK instructed by one of the founders of the FIM Sustainability Commission, Mr Peter Gregory - who currently serves as a member of the Bureau of the CID.
