Coppins admits to fitness concerns

Monster Yamaha rider Josh Coppins admits he has struggled for fitness in this season's FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship.

The New Zealander sits fourth in the championship standings after nine rounds, 64 points adrift of series leader Antonio Cairoli.

With five events remaining after this weekend's grand prix in Latvia, Coppins still has a chance of claiming the biggest prize in what is set to be his final season in the sport, but he is aware he needs to address fitness concerns for that to happen.

"I have been struggling with fitness, just some health problems and I have made a mistake and didn't get my blood checked enough, it is totally my own fault and after racing for so long I should have known better," he revealed.

"I need to get organised and try and be strong for the last part of the season."
