Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has been recognised once again for its commitment to sustainable development. In the same regard, the Catalan sports facility has taken a step forward and has been certified with the ISO 20121: 2013 standard, which certifies the sustainable management of events.
The Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya de MotoGP ™, an event that has been audited to obtain this distinction, has been characterised by the return of the public on a large scale, coinciding with the motto of the current edition of the KISS programme (Keep It Shiny and Sustainable) of the FIM Ride Green campaign: “2021, The Year of the People”.
In addition to caring for people and their well-being, offering the safest conditions possible for those attending, the Catalan facilities continue with their particular mission “Driving for a Better Future”. To obtain the standard, many other actions that the Circuit has carried out have been taken into account, which demonstrates its 3C management in sustainability (conscience, commitment and coherence).
Among the initiatives, we can highlight the use of 100% renewable energy, the donation of food, the use of 0-km gastronomy products, the use of the circular economy in waste management or sustainable forest care in the surroundings of the Circuit.
This sustainability strategy is aligned with the new FIM roadmap for 2021-2025, focused on people, sustainable events, climate and public awareness, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Kattia Juárez, FIM Sustainability Director commented: “We are delighted to know that the Circuit has obtained this certification that enforces their intense work in the field of sustainability. We have been working hand in hand with the circuit since 2013 and we found a very good ally. This initiative is aligned with the FIM sustainability strategy recently launched and is a good example of team work.”
