Sixteen-year-old Jamie Busto – Beta became the winner of the 2014 FIM Trial World Cup when he won the opening day of his home Grand Prix held at Arnedo yesterday. Whilst the young Spanish rider may have started the season as one of the favourites to lift the title despite 2014 being Jamie’s debut year in the series, the talented teenager did not have it all his own way at the opening GP down under with a 3 - 4 showing over the two days of competition in Australia.
However Busto was soon to prove his headlining billing as he then went on to record back-to-back wins both in Japan and then at the European GP on the French island of Corsica. Fourth and fifth places for Jamie in Italy and Belgium served as a reminder just how competitive this class has been this season and saw his advantage at the top of the general standings significantly reduced. A share of the spoils with his main rival Franz Kadlec – Beta in Great Britain as the young duo cancelled each other out with a win and a second place apiece over the weekend steadied the ship for Busto.
This was followed by a runners-up spot behind surprise winner Arnau Farre – Gas Gas at the previous round in France meant Busto headed to his home GP this weekend in the driving seat. Fourteen points in front before yesterday’s Trial meant Jamie took the title with a day to spare thanks to his win yesterday.
