Nineteen-year-old Jaime Busto – Repsol Honda will make his second appearance in the 2016 FIM X-Trial World Championship later this evening when he take his place in the eight rider line-up for the last round of the series in Marseille, France. Busto proved to be a real sensation during his rookie season outdoors last year, but to date has failed to impress under the bright lights indoors during his two outings in Barcelona, Spain first in 2015 and then again earlier this year.
Whilst Busto’s talent and ability is there for all to see, it would appear that currently he lacks the composure and focus to inflict damage on to his much more experienced rivals that make up the seven permanent riders of the series. Tonight will again be a tough test for the teenager as the intense atmosphere inside the Palais des Sports has proved to be an intimidating stage over the years. Moreover, the technical nature of the five observed sections, plus one double lane race are unlikely to offer any kind of respite and have a history of cruelly punishing even the slightest error.
That said, if Busto performs to his full potential this evening he might just deliver an early Easter surprise.
