Being in full control

The riding season is now gearing up in the northern hemisphere, and FIM is offering riders a helping hand as they take to the roads.

Steet-riding motorcyclists of all kind - commuters, short-distance leisure riders or those preparing to cover many hundreds of miles or kilometres - are now looking forward to bringing out their vehicles, but dangers lurk  in the form of car or lorry drivers who are not always aware of motorcyclists, and also because the riders have mostly been away from the street for several months.

But the FIM wishes to give them a helping hand. At the FIM Awards in November 2017, the Norwegian motorcyclists’ organisation, NMCU, was presented with the FIM road safety Award for their handbook Full Control”.

“Full Control” is a motorcycling rider training manual originally written for use in Norway. Subsequently the NMCU decided to produce an English edition and share it freely with the whole motorcycling world.

Over the years it has been further developed and today it is distributed as an e-book rather than in the original hard copy form. The project is currently developing further with a new series of videos.

FIM experts consider this book to be one of the best of its kind ever written. It covers more than just machine control skills; the psychology of riding and driving is examined in detail so that riders can learn to be good partners in traffic with other road users.

Because the riding season is fast approaching in the northern hemisphere of the world, the FIM urges all street riding motorcyclists to download the e-book and prepare themselves for the new season.

The booklet is available in English and even in Arabic from the FIM, but there are also plans to publish it in other languages.
