The 34th Baja Aragon, the second round of the FIM Bajas Cross-Country World Cup, started on July 20 with scrutineering and administration checks at the Exhibition and Congress Hall in Teruel and finished on Friday at noon.
35 motorcycles and 29 quads were granted permission to participate in Baja Aragon for the FIM Bajas Cross-Country World Cup.
In the afternoon, at 17.25hrs, the first of the bikes took the start of the 9.3km Prologue stage, 12km from Teruel.
As for each FIM event, this makes it possible to issue a starting order for the first of the real stages tomorrow.
This little timed section enabled the Honda rider Joan Barreda to finish in front of Ivan Cervantes (KTM), who has already competed in several Dakars but never in a Baja. The enduro rider defended his position well on this small selective section and is one of the favourites along with Michael Metge (Honda) and Joan Pedrero (Sherco), who finished third and fourth respectively.
The first 25 competitors were all closely matched, within a minute, and this augurs for a good race. One quad managed to slip into the leafing group of 10 bikes. The Aragon rider Mario Gajón was classified in ninth position.
Tomorrow, a real day of off-road action awaits for the riders with two special stages. One, Celadas-Teruel, is 133km and the other, Teruel- Perales Alfambra, is 216km.
