Back inside the ring

Tomorrow will see the famous Twin Ring circuit in Motegi, Japan host a round of the FIM Trial World Championship for an amazing seventeenth year in succession. Since it was first introduced to the series back in 2000 it has become one of the most important and prestigious events in the calendar following that initial edition. The permanent and sprawling motorsports facility set deep in the Japanese hills has to be witnessed first-hand to fully understand its sheer scale and immaculate presentation as it sits beautifully in its otherwise uninterrupted natural surroundings.

With a stated construction cost of five billon Japanese Yen the Honda owned purpose built facility first opened its gates back in August 1997 to reveal a World class road circuit measuring just under five kilometres and a banked oval circuit with a total length slightly shy of three kilometres. Aside from the two headline tracks, Twin Ring is also home to another smaller karting type circuit, a dirt racing oval and many other two / four wheel training facilities, not to mention the Honda Collection museum and a first class hotel.

Sitting proudly alongside MotoGP, the FIM Trial World Championship has established itself as an annual and welcome visitor to this incredible place each year, and will hopefully remain in the calendar for many years to come.
