Another twist in the title chase

In what is proving to be the closest fought title chase for many years, Russian Team CSKA star Dmitry Khomitsevich produced a master class as he raced to an immaculate 21 point maximum in front of a capacity crowd in Assen on Saturday. On a superbly prepared track his performance edged him into a one point lead as the championship reaches its final stages with only three rounds remaining.

Fellow Russian contenders Dimitry Koltakov and Daniil Ivanov maintained their challenges with strong displays from both but Igor Kononov saw his hopes dim as an uncharacteristsic fall whilst leading his first race cost him vital points.

Austrian Franz Zorn was again the top challenger to the leaders with another semi final place and his well earned 13 points was a fair reward for his efforts. Ove Ledström was the best of the Swedish squad but remains well adrift of the leading pack.
