Anastasiya Nifontova - 2017 Dakar Rally

The FIM has today exceptionally authorised the Motorcycle Federation of Russia (MFR) to issue a One Event International Licence for the 2017 Dakar Rally to Ms Anastasiya Nifontova, who has been provisionally suspended since 14 November 2016 following an Adverse Analytical Finding of Meldonium in a urine sample collected from her at an in-competition test carried out by the FIM in Agadir on 3 October 2016 at the round of the 2016 FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship held in Morocco.

This exceptional decision has been taken after important facts emerged in the course of the ongoing investigation of the case, and is notably based on clarified and updated medical information supplied by Ms Anastasiya Nifontova to the FIM.

After a careful balancing of the various interests at stake, the FIM considers that not to allow the MFR to issue a One Event International Licence for the 2017 Dakar Rally to Ms Anastasiya Nifontova, thereby preventing her from taking part in this event, could cause her irreparable harm. Under the World Anti-Doping Code and the FIM Anti-Doping Code, the FIM is unable to publicly comment on the specific facts of this pending case. We are therefore unable to provide any additional information at this time.
