A great day for Paolo Goncalves, winner of the special

OILIBYA RALLY, MOROCCO
Tuesday 15 October
From Jbel to Jbel
2nd stage: Zagora – Zagora
Link-up 58 km – Special: 240 km

Mountains, rocks and dust were on the menu for the competitors in this second loop of the Oilibya Rally in Morocco, which was stones all the way from start to finish. For stage winner Paolo Goncalves, it was a great day. “It was tough because it was either on stony tracks or in the mountains, explained the Portuguese rider. I am happy because my Honda has power and handles easily on this type of terrain.  Just four more days of racing to go... I have to keep focused but maintain a good pace to keep my place at the top of the leader board.”

There were no problems for Marc Coma, who came in second aboard his new injection KTM ahead of Sunderland (Honda), while Chaleco Lopez (KTM) finished fourth. “I caught up with Helder Rodrigues at km 60 and rode in the dust”, said the Chilean rider, “but I still managed to keep up a good pace without going flat out, as the terrain was not easy.”

Joan Barreda, who was first out, finished fifth.

It was not such a good day for Helder Rodrigues, who had to be towed back on his new Honda after the battery stopped charging.

Rafal Sonik, comfortable as always on his Yamaha Quad, is top of the Quad rankings ahead of Sébastien Souday (Yamaha), Mahommed Abu Issa (Honda) and Camelia Liparotti (Yamaha).
