A. Chareyre takes Sicily win

The races of the Sicilian Grand Prix took place today in Castelvetrano Circuit where the crowd could see in S1 class Adrien Chareyre on the top of the podium, while Mauno Hermunen and Thomas Chareyre completed the top three. The first heat started with a little bit of drizzle, Mauno Hermunen took the hole shot and Thomas Chareyre had a fantastic start. Fabrizio Bartolini and Angel Karanyotov were involved in a crash so the Race Director gave the red flag after the first lap. Luckily Bartolini just broke several parts of his bike, while Karanyotov got his leg hurt; 16 minutes later the race started again and both riders were able to take part in it. While mechanics were working, trying to change the slick tyres for the rain ones, the rain left for the sun again and the choice of the tyres became more and more difficult. APRILIA Fast Wheels Adrien Chareyre reached his first step of the podium of the season with a second and one first place. Also in the past, The French rider always obtained good results in this Sicilian circuit; today - in the first heat - he was very close to Hermunen since the start, overtaking him but, after some laps, the Finnish arrived stronger from behind catching him; in the second heat - at the first lap - he also overtook Mauno on the asphalt and rode with a great authority until the second chequered flag. TM SHR Mauno Hermunen got the hole shot in both heats; in race one he managed to keep the leading, Adrien passed him but, after some laps, he was able to find a good rhythm and finished first. In the second heat, after having changed position several times with the Chareyre brothers, he had to settle down for a third place finishing on the second step of the podium. Even though the Finnish rider maintained the Red Plate on his bike, he feels a little bit worried for his achievement of 2013 Supermoto World Champion Title because – by now - he only has got 25 points from Thomas. Third step of the podium today for TM Racing Factory Team Thomas Chareyre who - in the first heat – did not have a good start also because yesterday he crashed hurting his right hand in the time practice; Lazzarini and Vorlicek overtook him but then he recovered some position finishing third; in the second race he changed tyres and after having battled with Hermunen and Occhini, he finished second. Forth overall position today for SUZUKI Brt Andrea Occhini, who had his best performance of the season. The Italian rider made a mistake in the first heat but did his best to recover, finally finishing seventh; in the second heat he had a very good race overtaking Bydart and - for some laps - also the strong Thomas Chareyre, who however caught him and eventually finished fourth on his country soil. Fifth place for HONDA Luc1 Owatrol Sylvan Bydart who had two consistent races; the French Champion felt this asphalt slippery, caused by the venue near the sea, so he choose to ride safe, getting respectively 6-5, improving a little bit in the second heat. HM L30 Racing Ivan Lazzarini had a good race one, where he passed Thomas Chareyre and Petr Vorlicek finishing fourth; instead he had an unlucky race two, where he had a good start but - after the crash of Christian Ravaglia - slipped on Ravaglia’s bike oil and fell down, losing in twelve position. Then he tried the recovery finishing ninth, ended in sixth overall. TM Shr Petr Vorlicek finished seventh overall after a fantastic start in the first heat; then Lazzarini and Thomas overtook him, so he ended fourth. In the second heat he made some mistakes and he had to settle down for the eleventh position, followed by another Czech rider, TM Hardbike Racing Tomas Travnicek, obtaining a 10-8 results. Then HM Honda Racing Fabrizio Bartolini was happy to improve his position in front the Italian crowd, followed by the Slovenian HONDA Tds Uros Nastran, who closed the top ten. S1 Race 1 Top Ten: 1.
