In front of a packed audience, the 2016 FIM Trial des Nations was declared opened during last night’s official ceremony of the teams in the French ski resort of Isola 2000. Each of the twenty-four nations in the male competition and the ten countries competing in today’s Women’s event proudly took their place on the stage much to the appreciation of the assembled crowd and media who had gathered to get the first glimpse of the various squads in their national colours.
Reigning champions and favourites to extend their winning run, Spain headlined the men’s parade as they were joined by teams from as far afield as Canada, USA, Chile, Australia and Latvia on stage. Six teams will contest tomorrow’s World Championship class, leaving eighteen nations to fight it out in the International Trophy class.
However ahead of Sunday’s Trial, today the ladies will take centre stage with a total of ten countries set for battle on the French mountains with growing depth in this competition being confirmed by the presence of teams from Australia, USA and New Zealand being amongst this year’s entrants. On current form reigning champions Great Britain look favourites to lift the title again today.
The FIM Women’s Trial des Nations will be contested over two laps of fourteen sections today, whilst the men will complete two laps of eighteen hazards to determine their eventual winner
