2016 FIM Rally - Liptov, Slovakia

This year's FIM Rally for touring motorcyclists was held in the picturesque Liptov region of Slovakia. Organised by the Motoklub Riders Levice with the support of the Slovak Motorcycling Federation (SMF), the event took place from 29 June to 1 July.

The Liptov region, traversed by Slovakia’s longest river, the Váh, is almost half covered in forest and is surrounded by the country’s highest mountains.

The event started with several optional excursions by cableway to ski resorts, offering fine views even in summer, and a visit to a wellness and spa park featuring mineral-rich hot springs. The official start was at the Arrival Control in the town center of Liptovský Mikuláš on 29 June. The participants were checked in while their nation was announced and their national anthem was played. The following day there was an excursion to Demänovská Cave of Liberty and Orava Castle
The Parade of Nations took place on 1 July, with an itinerary passing through the local countryside and finishing in the town of Liptovský Mikuláš. The motorcycles were decorated with the flags of the nations as they paraded into town under a police escort.

The Awards were presented at the evening meal in the presence of several local dignitaries. A total of 984 participants representing 25 nations were in attendance.

  • The FIM Challenge award for the highest number of points scored was won by Italy (FMI).
  • The Marcel Haeckner Challenge for the greatest number of participants was won by Sweden (SVEMO).
  • The Gagarine Challenge for the greatest number of riders driving motorcycles was won by Italy (FMI).
  • The Rally torch was presented to Sweden, who will be hosting the 2017 FIM Rally in Sundsval next July.
