Two hundred and seventy riders made it to the 2012 edition of the FIM Motocamp. The weather was mixed to say the least, but this year’s event, hosted by the Looise Moto Club of Belgium at the Sports Centre in Tesssenderlo, was a superbly organised affair.
On Friday 8 June the sun came out and the riders rode in the traditional Parade of Nations, displaying the national flags of all the participating countries. This year, in a new feature, each nation was headed by a sidecar outfit manned by local sidecar enthusiasts. Clearly sidecar riding is still very popular in Belgium.
To demonstrate the International Motorcycling Federation’s support for the FIM Motocamp, FIM CEO Stéphane Desprez made time to attend the event and joined in the Parade of Nations riding a BMW displaying the FIM flag. The motorcycle was kindly loaned for the occasion by Looise Moto Club. A local television crew was on the spot and recorded interviews with Stéphane Desprez and the Director of the FIM Touring and Leisure Commission, Niels Hansen.
After attending his first FIM Motocamp, Stéphane Desprez, FIM CEO, commented: “It was a real pleasure to attend the 2012 FIM Motocamp and have a chance to meet with so many enthusiastic touring riders. Developing Touring & Leisure activities is a pillar of the FIM Strategic Plan. It was important for me to come to Tessenderlo to show the FIM’s support for this activity. Motorcycling has a bright future in society and the FIM needs to lead the way.”
