2011 FIM Long Track World Championship starts on Sunday

On the spectacular 1000 m long track in the beautiful Bohemian City of Marianske Lazne (CZE) the FIM World Long Track Champiopnship campaign celebrates its opening of the 2011 season on next Sunday 12th June.

The 17 fastest Long Track riders plus the local Wild Card boy Richard Wolff fight for the FIM World Championship and the first win of the season, six more Final races coming up in Norway, Finland, France, Netherlands and Germany.

Reigning FIM World Champion Joonas Kylmäkorpi is he man to beat – the 31 years old Finnish rider won his first title here in Marianske Lazne in September, 2010. But, as record title holder Gerd Riss had to withdraw from Racing due to injuries. There is no real title favorite this year and at least a dozen of the 17 permanent riders should be able to win a final race anywhere.

Last years runner-up Theo Pijper from the Netherlands is keen to win this year. Number 3 Richard Speiser has come back to form right in time. European Grasstrack Champion Andrew Appleton wants to improve from his Number 4 spot. Number 5 Stephan Katt was last years GP Winner at Marianske Lazne and the German „Catman“ is rated as one of the Top favourites of the season.

The rookies: The German Speedway star Martin Smolinski is high rated as the Finnish young guy „Ape“ Mustonen is, who gives his World Championship debut only 20 years old!

12 Heats, 2 Semi-finals and the final with the six best riders will sort out the first FIM Long Track Wolrd Championship Final winner of the 2011 season.

The Event at Plzenska Road in Marianske Lazne (CZE) will be opened on June 12th, 14.00 hours; first heat starts 14.30 hours. Tickets are available on the day from CKR 250,-
