2011 FIM Long Track World Championship Final 2, Forus, Norway.

On Saturday 26 June at Forus, near Stavanger, Norway, the second of seven FIM Long Track World Championship rounds will be organised.  It will be a very exciting to host such a prestigious event in Stavanger, a city mostly known for the North Sea oil activities. Stavanger is an international city which offers nice accomodations and good restaurants. From the city you have easy access to one of the many boat trips on fjords with view over spectacular mountains.

The 1000 meter track of Forus, primarily used for horseracing, has a long tradition in being the venue for Long Track races and also for car races.  The track was off limit for motor racing during nearly 20 years due to a too high noise level, but four years ago it was again opened for long track. Riders such as Gerd Riss, Sirg Schutsbach and Appi Mustonen and other top European long track jockeys could again enter the starting gates at Forus. It is a very fast track where Germany’s ten times World Champion Gerd Riss holds the record.  Now this record is up for grabs and we are looking forward to see if any of the 18 riders can challenge the spectacular time achieved by Gerd Riss. .

It is of course exciting to welcome this tremendous strong field of riders in Forus. Although the track has had very good riders in previous races, it never presented a field where any of the riders could win! We are looking forward to have our Nordic friend, reigning FIM World Champion Joonas Kylmakorpi here.  Joonas met hard competition at Marianske Lazne (CZE) in the first WC final and will hopefully try to improve his 2011 standing at Forus.  The event at Marianske Lanze shows that the German riders love the 1000 meter tracks as the six German riders took the 6 top places. Theo Pijper, Andrew Appleton and the rest of the riders have a job to do to re-arrange this standing.

The Norwegian “wild card” Kim Rudi Juritzen will get something to chew on at this race. On the other hand Juritzen knows the track well and has been racing at Forus many times.

The two substitutes are both from the local area where Inge Bjerk is a converted speedway rider and Willy Tjessem a seasoned long track rider.
Welcome to Forus!
