A brand-new event for 2025, Motor Revival Zolder promises something for motorcycle enthusiasts of all ages and interests with the emphasis firmly on accessibility. Over the weekend there will be demonstration rides, autograph sessions, competitions, parades, a rooftop party, auction and even a moped day that offers visitors the opportunity to ride around the circuit under supervision.
While Zolder is known for hosting memorable F1 Grands Prix, in 1980 it hosted its sole FIM Motorcycle Grand Prix that was won by Randy Mamola on a 500cc Factory Suzuki with Stefan Dörflinger winning in the 50cc class, Angel Nieto in the 125cc class, Anton Mang in the 250cc class and Jock Taylor and Benga Johansson in the Sidecars.
In 2025, Belgian enthusiasts wanted to revive this part of history and created an event concept combining modern racing with exhibitions and parades of historic speed machines. To encourage this initiative, this event has been included in the FIM Historic Events Calendar with more than thirty collectors and fifty machines travelling to Zolder from England, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and France.
To mark this momentous occasion, Mamola will be reunited with his winning machine from Zolder’s unique 500 GP in 1980. The selection of motorcycles will be managed by FIM partner’s Amicale Spirit of Speed and in accordance with the FIM Historic Events regulations the machines presented will be FIM certified as part of the FIM Heritage Programme.
Following last month’s hugely-popular Sunday Ride Classic at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France, Motor Revival Zolder is the second of three events on this year’s FIM Historic Events Calendar that was originally created in 2021 to exclusively present machines whose authenticity has been certified by a procedure that gives them an irrefutable identity.
This procedure is carried out through the ground-breaking FIM Certification for Competition Motorcycles initiative as part of the FIM Heritage Programme that aims to authenticate and catalogue classic machines by compiling a comprehensive database of bikes, races and riders.
The 2025 FIM Historic Events Calendar concludes with the Le Mans Classic that runs from 3-6 July at the iconic French circuit.
Hendrik De Rycker, Motor Revival Zolder organiser, said: “It is a very accessible event with a large dose of nostalgia. We connect with the past of Circuit Zolder. The focus is on machines from before the year 2000, also from the ’60s and ’70s when the efficient and fast two-stroke machines claimed the podium places. Motor Revival is, as far as I know, unique in terms of concept because it is very broadly conceived. Visitors can see, hear, smell and feel motorcycles.”
Jorge Viegas, FIM President, stated: “Following on from the success of the Sunday Ride Classic, it is very exciting that the next stop on the FIM Historic Events Calendar is a track so steeped in motorcycling history as the Circuit Zolder. Visitors can look forward to a weekend of nostalgia and thanks to the FIM Certification for Competition Motorcycles be confident that the machines they are seeing have been authenticated and catalogued.”
Collectors, owners and enthusiasts are invited to propose their motorcycles for certification, creating a worldwide database of competition machinery so that history can be preserved and passed on to future generations!
