Antonio 'Tony' Cairoli a annoncé qu'il ne serait plus pilote professionnel la saison prochaine, après neuf titres de champion du monde.
"Ce n'est pas une décision facile", a déclaré le pilote italien de 35 ans. "J'ai toujours dit que les chiffres et les statistiques ne signifiaient pas grand-chose pour moi. Je pense que le fait de remporter un championnat du monde a été une réussite pour moi et ma famille, alors avoir eu une carrière comme celle-ci est très spécial."
"Je pense que c'est le bon moment pour arrêter. Tout ce qui m'entoure me fait penser que c'est la bonne décision, et nous essayons toujours de gagner le titre cette année, donc la motivation est élevée pour ce défi."
"Je veux remercier tous ceux qui m'ont aidé et soutenu depuis que je suis arrivé en Championnat du monde, et tout au long du chemin en fait. Il y a eu beaucoup de visages et de noms et, bien sûr, toute l'excitation et l'amour des fans. J'ai eu le sentiment de faire partie de la famille KTM dès le premier jour et nous allons continuer à travailler ensemble, mais d'une manière différente. Il y a beaucoup plus à faire dans la vie après 2021, mais pour l'instant notre objectif est très clair."

He has fans all over the world and some of the biggest are right here in the factory. It will be strange not to see that orange #222 on the track next season but his passion for riding and his experience will still be big assets for us. The story doesn’t quite end here.”
The 2021 calendar is due to finish with the Grand Prix of Mantova on 10.11.2021. After this event, Tony will remain very much part of the KTM family and part of the KTM race department activities.
