“KiSS MotorLand” at the Gran Premio movistar De Aragón

Following the great success of the “KiSS MotorLand - keep it shiny and sustainable” programme last year, there will be a new and even more ambitious programme at the 2014 FIM Road Racing Grand Prix World Championship event at the MotorLand circuit in Aragón. This project, which is a step forward in reducing the environmental footprint of this kind of mass event, has been made possible by the Circuit of Aragón and the FIM with the support of Dorna, IRTA, HONDA, the Government of Aragon and Sponsors Urbaser and Coca Cola.

Marc Márquez, as a FIM Ride Green Ambassador, will be the spokeman for the programme. Aragón is one of the circuits he appreciates the most. "Motorland is my favorite track! It is my neighborhood, so being the Ambassador for KiSS Motorland is a great satisfaction for me because we care about the environment. Join KiSS Motorland and contribute to recycling at the circuit. You can also take part in the photo contest (hashtag #kissmotorland) on instagram to win win passes for the 2015 season!  Ride Green!"

Last year the programmed showed sizeable results: 38,160 kg (0.35 kg/pp/day) of solid rubbish was collected, the majority of it organic. On race day, 10,000 kg of waste was collected within the public areas where KiSS Motorland was carried out. With this programme a total of 46% of the packaging and 54% of the paper was recycled compared with the numbers for 2012 where only 22% of packaging and 35% of paper were recycled.

The main aim of this campaign, which is part of the FIM’s sustainability policy, is to raise awareness among all motorcycling fans in order to reduce the environmental impact of our races through management of the waste generated by the public, the paddock and the parking areas.

There will be two distribution points, in two main “pelouse” areas (Stand 4 and stand 6) where the spectators can collect the KiSS Kit that contains a brochure with indications, some souvenirs and three rubbish sacks of different colors for organic waste, paper and plastic. In total, 5000 kits will be distributed early on Sunday.

With the assistance of Urbaser, rubbish containers will be set up to collect separately different types of waste in all the MotorLand stands so that fans can throw away their rubbish for subsequent recycling. In the commercial area of Stand 7, there will be a giant screen showing “KiSS” video messages from the MotoGP riders. The giant screens at the circuit will also be showing messages to raise awareness among the spectators.

In parallel, other “green” actions such as sustainable mobility, reduction in energy consumption, and environmental actions in the press room will be also be conducted.

As part of this project, a contest will be launched with the hashtag #KissMotorLand. It will be easy to enter as fans are invited to post their photographs showing good environmental actions during the Aragón Grand Prix via Instagram and via Twitter in a tweet to @AragonMotorLand using the hashtag #KissMotorLand. All the photos will be automatically posted to an album on the MotorLand official Facebook page (“Amigos de MotorLand Aragón”) and at the end of the event the best photos will win prizes including tickets for the Gran Premio de Aragón de MotoGP 2015.

Other circuits that have taken part in the programme are Mugello in Italy, COTA in Austin, US, and Barcelona.
